A user presumably is going to use these custom buttons for their favorite apps and so they're likely in the top row of the home screen. It might have been easier than programming the Roku itself to associate an app but it makes the custom buttons pointless in my opinion. Essentially it's identical behavior to when you use voice commands and so presumably they "achieved" custom buttons by doing something like storing the last voice clip on the remote and then just sending that to the Roku whenever you press that button. The only time it doesn't is if I'm on the home screen in which case it goes straight to Plex. I checked lots of different combinations and this message comes up whenever I'm in an app and press one of the custom buttons.
